I am absolutely shocked. This is what 15 years of the porn industry can do to people. Kids please stay off drugs. It is a dead end street.

A recent video interview found on youtube.

Shelley Lubben
I recently conducted an interview with Shelley Lubben who went by the name Roxy while she was an active adult performer in the mid-90’s. Since leaving sex work, Shelley has become one of the most outspoken critics against the porn industry and has established the Pink Cross Foundation to help porn addicts and adult performers. Shelly and I discussed her past, the struggles she endured as a porn performer, and her recovery.
Where and when were you born?
May 18, 1968 in Pasadena, California
What was your family life like early on?
My early childhood was pretty uneventful. I grew up in a middle class family. I was a Brownie, attended Sunday School and was very creative. I was an extremely energetic child and my mother says raising me was like raising twins.
I felt my parents ignored me and I began to make up stories like men were trying to kidnap me when I walked to school in order to get their attention. My Dad worked a lot and loved his garage.
What was your childhood like? Were you happy?
I was bored most of the time. My parents weren’t very involved in my life and much of the time I was on my own hanging out in the neighborhood. I was often writing and directing my own plays and skits beginning at age seven where I would invite neighborhood kids to come and watch. My 1st grade teacher told my mother I was a creative genius and my mother replied, “Oh yes she’s very peculiar.” The teacher told her I should be put into a creative program. My mother didn’t “get it”. I was never developed and grew up very frustrated. I was left to myself and began to get into trouble.
By age 9 I was sexually abused by a teenage boy and his sister, a classmate of mine. I had my first lesbian experience at that time. I was horrified. Immense shame and guilt followed me well into my adult years. I began masturbating at 9 years old. I looked for love in boys and realized if I gave them sex they would tell me how special I was. I longed for my parents, especially my father, to notice me and give me affection but he was a workaholic. My mother was a religious nag and drove me crazy. My family spent most of our quality time together in front of the TV so I grew up with people like Jack Tripper and Lucy Ricardo as my role models.
I was writing short stories and poetry beginning at age 8. I played guitar at age 9. I was very creative and musical.
My family attended church the first 8 years of my life and then we stopped going. I loved Sunday School and what I learned still remains with me to this day.
When I was around 7 Jesus told me I would be working for Him some day and He showed me a vision of me speaking to thousands of people in an arena. I was sure someday I would be a preacher and an author. Those were my childhood dreams.
Looking back, is there anything that happened in your childhood that made you turn to the adult industry?
Yes, one of the factors that ultimately led me to be in the adult industry was sexual abuse. The other factor was lack of parenting and proper child development.
At what age did you first start using drugs and alcohol?
Age 16 I started drinking and dabbling in drugs.
I read somewhere that you become involved in prostitution at a young age. How did that come about?
I was a prostitute right out of high school after I barely graduated. I was 18. I got pregnant by a client the following year and had a baby girl in June, 1988.

Shelley on an adult box cover in the mid-90's
How did you first become involved in the porn business? How old were you?
I was 24 years old when a woman told me I should do porn and would make much more money. By this time I was exhausted from stripping and prostituting so porn sounded better. I was wrong. Nobody told me I would catch an STD. They gave me a false sense of security telling me if I tested I would be safe.
Describe the first time you filmed an adult scene. What do you remember about the experience?
I remember big red doors that led me to a very dark and seedy place where I saw a couch with sexy pillows and lighting all around it. Naked people walking around. A pornographer looked me up and down and asked for my HIV test and my i.d. At the time they didn’t test for anything else. It was a lesbian scene mostly with one guy. We were told to be college girls and have sex with each other. I was not at all interested in having sex with a woman I didn’t know. I was very nervous although I hid it. They asked me my stage name and I had been to the Roxy the night before so I just said, “Roxy” on the spot.
I went into the back, changed my clothes and downed a bunch of Jack Daniels. They called my name to do my scene and I felt really awkward. I kept trying to figure out if I should shake hands with someone I was about to have sex with or how should I greet them? No one to really guide me.
The director explained what he wanted out of the scene. Nobody checked each others’ tests. I didn’t know we were supposed to do that. I was very nervous and was more focused on what the hell I was about to do. The scene started and something came over me, something very dark. I just started going crazy and took over the scene out to prove I was the best. The scene ended and they threw a rag at me to clean the “stuff” off my face. I felt totally humiliated and disgusting and had tears in my eyes but I turned my head to hide them and told myself to suck it up.
During the scene the producer kept cheering me on and saying things like, “Wow you’re going to be the next big porn star. I never saw anybody give a *** like that. You are so hot Roxy”….blah blah blah. I was desperate to be noticed and so the attention was like a drug for me. I was desperate for attention. Of course the fast money was a major attraction.
After the scene the producer told me he was setting me up with a big producer where I would be doing pro movies with people like Peter North, Nikki Sinn, Ron Jeremy…. I was thinking no way would I do another movie but I really believed I had no other option. I was a single parent and totally burned out from stripping and prostitution. I took the bait and next thing you know I’m doing whatever they asked me to. I had something to prove and they KNEW I would prove it. I had to prove I was better than everyone else so I did very hardcore scenes early on in my so-called career.
You are very anti-porn these days. What are some of the negative things that you witnessed during your time in the adult business?
Where do I start. I saw and participated in drug use. We stood around naked waiting for our scene outside in the backyard where we were filming in and smoked pot and sniffed meth, coke, and whatever else was available. We got drunk in the back rooms or high in the bathroom. Some pornographers said no drugs but that just meant no drugs near the “set”.
I saw girls crying their eyes out and screaming like maniacs. I remember when I was just new I thought to myself “Why are the women so bitchy?” I found out later why of course. I saw women vomiting while their heads were forced up and down some guy’s large penis. I was one of them who gagged and vomited several times on set even though I put my hand up to stop them. They didn’t stop. I saw pornographers make women do scenes they didn’t agree to and threaten them if they didn’t. I was one of them. I experienced disgusting work conditions where rags of crap, pee and blood were thrown on the floor next to where we were “acting”. Women had hair pulled and faces smacked. We were called whore, bitch, cunt, slut and the list goes on. I was forced to do a scene I did not agree to. The pornographer threatened me and I was so naïve about it all that I actually thought he would and could sue me. I remember being very sore that day after doing so much anal sex.
I saw and experienced torn body parts. I saw used sponges and enemas on the floor in the bathroom. NOTHING was ever sanitary. The industry was and is still totally unregulated and operating ILLEGALLY according to Cal Osha’s Adult Film Standards which you can read at http://www.dir.ca.gov/DOSH/AdultFilmIndustry.html . I also saw and experienced a lot of prostitution. Pornographers set us up and we flew around the country to have sex with high dollar clients. They often expected sex without a condom and paid us enough money to do it.

Shelley Lubben
According to the IAFD (Internet Adult Film Database) you only appeared in about a dozen films over a couple of years in the industry. Do you feel like you were involved in adult films long enough to form an accurate opinion about the entire industry?
I appeared in more than a dozen films. The IAFD doesn’t list them all and also some of them are too old or too amateur to be listed.
I was in the porn industry and lived the lifestyle about 2 years. That’s long enough. Between prostitution, pornographers and performing I definitely received a big taste of the porn industry. And I have the herpes and early cervical cancer to prove it.
Your life was obviously headed in the wrong direction before you started doing porn, so do you feel like porn made it any worse? Was your recovery more difficult because you were involved with pornography than say if you were just a stripper and a prostitute?
Yes porn made it worse. The porn industry attracts and lures in people who are damaged and damages them more. They lure in the sexually exploited because they are vulnerable and will agree to be more sexually exploited. Anyway, it’s all about money. None of us enjoys making porn. It’s extremely traumatizing and hard work. There are over 100 porn stars easily who have confessed in interviews or their blogs how hard making porn is. Anyone can go online and find this information. Not to mention all the deaths in the last 20 years or even the last couple years from HIV, Suicide, Drug overdose and Homicide. No other industry kills more people due to the negative effects I just mentioned than the porn industry.
Yes, my recovery was harder due to making hardcore movies. I did things in porn I never did in prostitution.
What were some of the negative consequences you experienced personally from performing in adult films?
Herpes. Early Cervical Cancer where half of my Cervix had to be removed. Three pregnancy losses due to porn. One of them entopic and two were miscarriages. My reproductive system was very damaged after I did porn. I did prostitution 6 years and used a condom and never caught an STD. STDS lead to cervical cancer and other reproductive damage.
I also was diagnosed with mental disorders and had major emotional problems that took 8 years of hard work to recover from.
You have spoke in the past about the illusion of porn. Tell the readers about that.
Yes I have spoken about the lie of porn on the web, tv, radio interviews, churches, government and secular organizations since 2004. Since then more than a dozen other women and men have joined me and spoken out as well. And the cause grows as more and more people contact us for help and want to speak out. Every month a porn performer joins our cause and speaks out against the porn industry.

Shelley Lubben founder of the Pink Cross Foundation
There are some women who are adamant that they enjoy performing in adult films and are able to express themselves sexually by performing. What would you say to them?
I love you but bullshit. Then I would try to get them to open up and share their history and background with me which often causes porn stars to run away. Funny how they hate to talk about their childhood and history.
Remember, it’s ALWAYS about the money, not sexual expression. If it’s about sexual expression then why don’t porn stars ever work for free?
What are some statistics you have about the adult film industry?
I have been researching the porn industry for about three years and share statistics below. I can’t even keep up with all the deaths happening lately. So sad.
http://www.shelleylubben.com/index.php?truth=porn
See stats on the left. If you just want quick stats you can visit www.thepinkcross.org and they are on the right. You may check out my blog for recent deaths.
What caused you to give up making adult films? What was the final straw for you personally?
HERPES!
What was the hardest thing about walking away from adult entertainment? What was the most difficult thing to give up?
The money $$$. The attention.
After leaving porn did you continue using drugs and working as a prostitute?
I did try to go back to prostitution but it was short lived due to me infecting a married couple with Herpes and being a total wreck due to increased drug and alcohol use in the porn industry. There were LOTS and LOTS of parties I went to where drugs and alcohol were in abundant supply and given freely. Pornographers also loved to give us drugs and alcohol. Good for business if we were intoxicated because then WE WOULD DO ANYTHING.
Have you been diagnosed with any mental disorders?
Yes. I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Impulse Control Disorder, Alcohol Dependence, Depressive Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I was prescribed zoloft, sleeping pills, lithium and counseling.
Most recovering addicts describe a definite low point in their lives. When did you hit rock bottom? When did you realize that you had to change your life?
I hit rock bottom several times but was spared by God. I overdosed and tried to commit suicide several times in my 8 year involvement in the sex industry. One suicide attempt and overdose was right after I caught Herpes. That was rock bottom for me.
How long after leaving the adult film business did you clean up your life? Was it though Christ or therapy? Or both?
Right after I left I made a serious decision to really seek God whose love and faithfulness was revealed to me through Jesus Christ. The Bible says those who diligently seek God find Him and I really did find Him, met Him in a very personal way and He did everything His book said He could do. He healed me from substance abuse, mental disorders, emotional disorders, flashbacks, horrible memories and healed my mind and THEN even did above and beyond and blessed everything my husband and I set our hands to. It’s like I won the lotto. That’s how GOOD God is. People think He’s mean and doesn’t care but they just don’t know Him. They haven’t even tried to get to know Him. Unfortunately the church has done a terrible job at revealing God to people. I am not a church person. I am Christian who believes in love and serving people that I might compel them to step into the Light and live the life they were truly meant to live. A life of purpose, meaning and beauty.
I tired therapy but didn’t work. I don’t think they were prepared to help someone like me. They prescribed me the medication listed above and made me watch anger management videos.
When did you first start working to help porn performers?
Women started contacting me in 2005. It was hard to go back to the industry after so many years. It had changed so much. It’s worse now. It’s much bigger now. I started really going after the porn stars and reaching out to them on the web in 2006 and I began to get response after response from girls telling me how screwed up the industry is and that their agent fucked them over and so and so ripped them off and how they caught HPV or another STD. Some had their cervixes removed at age 22! Some were force fed meth and slapped and spit on. Horror story after horror story and I became enraged. I knew I had to do something about it.

Shelley Lubben
Having been involved in prostitution longer than you were an adult actress why is it that your main focus is on porn these days? Why don’t you focus more on helping prostitutes?
That’s not my calling. I only do what my Father tells me to and when it’s truly the work of God, it is successful. This is the first time in history so many women and men have left porn and are also speaking out.
Do you feel like prostitution is a larger problem since there are more women involved in prostitution than porn?
Porn stars ARE prostitutes. Porn IS prostitution and DOES involve prostitution so it’s all the same problem. Agents are pimps and porn stars are prostitutes.
http://www.lukeisback.com/essays/essays/prostitution.htm
Do you feel like the viewers of pornography are victims as well?
Absolutely.
Some girls in the industry claim to live healthy, happy lives. Do you think that there are drug-free, well adjusted adult performers anywhere out there or are all porn performers miserable?
I haven’t met one yet. I’d love to.
Porn has become a big business. Used to almost every performer walked away from the business empty handed. These days there are a select few that walk away millionaires or at least very wealthy. What would you say about them? Is it possible that porn has made some lives better?
No, it just means they get to live a little more luxurious. They pay the same ugly price. Maybe a bigger price since they are now stuck in a luxurious life style they have to pay for.
Do you think that the mainstream entertainment industry exploits women in some of the same ways the porn industry does?
No, not the same way. They aren’t forced to gag on some guy’s penis or being slapped in the face while called a whore. They also don’t risk their lives physically like porn performers do. Even Dr. Sharon Mitchell confesses that 66% of porn performers are Herpes carriers. We don’t hear statistics like that in the mainstream entertainment industry. Statistics show the death rate in the porn industry due to HIV, Suicide, Drug overdose and Homicide is more than the mainstream entertainment industry. It’s not hard to add the numbers up.
We are a society obsessed with sex. Some of your critics would argue that the problems you expose are part of a broader more cultural problem. What do you say to that?
I agree. We definitely have a huge sexualized culture thanks to the porn industry. Companies like Playboy glamorized it and exposed us to it and others followed.
When did you start the Pink Cross Foundation?
It officially began on January 24, 2009 but took a little over a year to do the legal paperwork and set up business.
Tell the readers what the Pink Cross Foundation is all about?
Pink Cross Foundation is a faith-based IRS approved 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to reaching out to adult industry workers offering emotional, financial and transitional support. We largely focus on reaching out to the adult film industry offering support to porn stars. Pink Cross Foundation also reaches out to those struggling with pornography offering education and resources to recover.
How can adult film performers and addicts contact you?
Porn performers can contact me at help@thepinkcross.org and porn addicts can get help at www.thepinkcross.org where we offer a free web site membership where they can receive help from the Pink Cross Team which is made up of recovering porn addicts, ex porn stars and ex drug users and on and on. We’re a bunch of Ragamuffins who have been there and care.

Shelley Lubben and her husband
I’m a mother of three beautiful and healthy daughters. I live in Bakersfield, California, in a nice home my husband and I own. My husband and I are ordained Chaplains who love to help porn stars and porn addicts and pretty much anyone who crosses our path. I fight porn. I attend a University where I am pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Theology/Counseling. I love gardening and roses are my specialty. I study great reformers and American History.
How long have you been married?
I have been married 14 years since Feb. 14, 1995. I married a Pastor’s son who loved a beat up and broken sex worker.
Do you still struggle with your past or have temptation to return to your old lifestyle?
I don’t struggle with my past but I admit my present is pretty stressful. No, I do not have temptation to go back into sex work. The grass on the other side really is greener.
How long have you been clean and sober?
I got clean the minute I turned back to God in 1994 thanks to the Cross of Jesus Christ. Sobriety didn’t happen until 2000.
What would you say to a girl who is considering appearing in adult films?
Don’t do it. You are made for greater things than porn. And everything I wrote above.
Is there anything you would like to promote or websites you would like to tell the readers about?
I’d love to!
Pink Cross Foundation at www.thepinkcross.org
My personal web site at www.shelleylubben.com
Any final words you would like to say?
Yes, to the porn stars.
I love you. I love you. I love you. I’m here for you.

Ron Jeremy
Ron Jeremy recently gave an interesting interview to Metro.
The vital statistics of Ron Jeremy, 56, are 1.6m, 90kg and 24cm (9.5in, If you’re wondering) making him one of the world’s most famous porn stars. His latest DVD, out on Monday, is The One Eyed Monster, a non-pornographic film about aliens taking over his penis.
When will you give up porn?
When I wake up one morning and find my penis has fallen off.
What will you do with it then?
I will throw it at all the people I have ever hated. They will hear a noise [makes a banging noise] and say: ‘Ow, who threw that?’
I saw you on YouTube playing the piano. Perhaps you could do that if the porn dries up?
Was I playing it with my penis?
No, just your hands.
I took lessons as a young boy and I was considering a career as a classical pianist before getting into porn. I have played it with my penis before – it goes: boom, da da, boom, da da, boom.
What’s the best part of a woman?
Hmm, what’s that corny thing they say? Her face, her brain, her mind? For me, as long as she’s got a pulse, it’s OK. Put a mirror under her nose and if I see fog, I’m going in. No, seriously, I think it’s the face. The body has to be nice too, although I don’t like to break it into parts like boobies, rear end and legs. It’s about the mind too, the whole kit and caboodle.
What’s the most romantic thing you have done for a girl?
My ex loved animals and wanted to work at a wildlife park for sick ones. It was volunteer work only and she couldn’t afford to do it so I paid her a salary to work there.
Are you an animal lover too?
I love animals. You can see my pet tortoise Sherry in the film Porn Star Pets. I also did posters for Peta, the Protection of Eating Tasty Animals. I’m kidding, the ethical treatment of animals. I also starred in the British program The Farm. I was beaten by Orville and Keith Harris. The guy had his hand up a duck’s rear end the whole time. At least I beat Lionel Blair.
Do you have a girlfriend?
No, I’m on the road a lot. You meet girls who want to mess around but finding a serious relationship is tough.
Surely the problem is that you have sex with women for a living?
Me and my friends have talked about this and I’ve never said this before in an interview but a girl thinks she can’t cause me any pain and it p***es her off. People tend to think if you are popular you don’t feel pain. If we break up or she throws me out, I can walk away and get a younger, hotter girl. She can’t punish me. But they get the last laugh because when a man loses someone he really cares about he is still in pain. All the sex in the world won’t satisfy loneliness. Aren’t I getting awfully corny? [shouts] Can we get some violins, please?
Does it upset you when people criticize your appearance?
My career has done better since I gained weight. I got more work because the average guy was thinking: ‘If a guy like that can get all the beautiful girls, then I can.’ Yes, I have got careless with my weight, but my career has lasted 30 years and I’m still working.
How has the industry changed in that time?
The girls have got way, way better looking. When someone such as Jenna Jameson sells her company for $14million, girls realise there is real money to be made here.
Do you ever think: ‘I really can’t be bothered to have sex today’?
There are tougher scenes, yes, particularly when it is someone you have worked with a lot or if it’s someone you don’t fancy, say an older woman or a heavy one. There are tricks, though; I stare at the cameraman’s foot or the light switch or I think about something else.
What will your headstone say?
After talking to Metro’s Lisa, everything seemed pale in comparison, he was ready to die. Honey, if you ever come over to the States, call me.

Kay Parker Today
Kay Parker is one of the most well known actresses to ever preform in adult film. She is a classic beauty who starred in numerous adult titles during the golden age of porn in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Kay was always known for both her acting ability and sexual prowess. She is most famous for her role in the classic porn flick Taboo and some of its sequels.
I recently caught up with Kay for a short interview to see what she has been up to for all these years. I was pleasantly surprised to find that she is living a very interesting life and had a lot to talk about.
You were born in Birmingham, England. When did you first come to the United States?
I arrived in 1965 after having spent two or more years living in Germany. It had always been a goal to master another language, a goal I fulfilled while I was there.
What was your life like as a child? Where did you grow up?
I grew up post World War 2 in a very cold and depressed England as the country struggled to rebuild after the war. In my memory there were no colors, just grey. I remember food rationing and extreme scarcity. My Father raised us under the banner of “Children should be seen and not heard,” and “Don’t speak unless spoken to.”

Kay Parker early in her career
How did you first become involved in the adult entertainment business?
I met John Leslie who introduced me to Robert McCallum and I took a small non-sex role in “V-The Hot One.”
What factors in your life lead to your decision to perform in adult films?
There were many of which I talk about in my book, but for this interview, suffice it to say that number one, there was a fascination with the art of film-making and number two, a deeply rooted yearning to get free, to peel off my layers and to know myself. I saw this as an opportunity to do that.
What did you like best about performing in front of the camera?
I had spent a year in an intense acting workshop prior to meeting John and this was an opportunity to put my tools to use, as it were. So, there was great satisfaction in performing and portraying characters for me.
Any favorite actors you enjoyed working with more than others?
Several of the men I worked with were real gentlemen, including Eric Edwards and Herschel Savage, John Leslie of course and the incomparable Richard Pacheco.
Sometime in the mid-80’s you gave up performing in adult films. Can you tell us what the reasons were behind your decision to quit performing?
There were several factors, my age (even though I could have continued, I opted out,) and of course, the AIDS epidemic. Beyond those reasons, the video age had arrived, film budgets had dropped, and videos were being shot in one or two days and were just sex scenarios. The industry I had known, where we shot on film, had lengthy scripts and multiple takes of a scene with room to develop characters disappeared. I couldn’t bring myself to participate any longer. It was time to leave.

Kay Parker
I also have read that you directed one title before leaving the adult business for good, Tantric Guide to Sexual Potency, in 1994. What was it like to be on the other side of the camera and why did you not continue to direct?
Yes, this was a project that I cared for because of the content. I had always been concerned with putting love back into sex – this was in fact my logo during those years. In Tantra – which is the yoga of sex, the emphasis is on breathing and the focus is on divine union through sexual interaction. The focus on the orgasm is diminished opening up the space for a deep spiritual union which can be transcendental and beautiful beyond words. I didn’t continue to direct because it was time for me to get on with my other work…my counseling and spiritual mentoring work.
Do you have any regrets about your career in adult film?
No regrets – I see every experience as an opportunity and, within that notion, higher purpose prevails. In life, it’s important to see the bigger picture, as if looking at the tapestry of all the events in our lives and their outcome from a higher vantage point. This is challenging for most people, but through choosing to see the bigger picture, one has the opportunity to move out of any semblance of martyr or victim consciousness.
Do you keep in touch with any people from the adult industry? Any actors, producers or directors?
I keep in touch with a few, those I had a heart connection with…Seka, Mr. Pacheco, Veronica Hart and Kelly Nichols.
When did you first become involved in new age philosophy?
I began to pursue my belief in an alternative reality and way of life over 30 years ago when I lived in Northern California and during the time of my film career.
Briefly explain in general what you belief system is all about.
It’s simple, take care of yourself, and take care of others and the environment. Beyond that, know who you are as a divine being, as a soul having a human experience on a path which is eternal and focus on that, as opposed to the status quo.
You believe in re-incarnation of the soul. Tell us more about that.
That’s way too lengthy to talk about here. Suffice it to say that each of us is on a journey that extends way beyond this lifetime. In order to understand this, one has to move beyond fear, doubt, trepidation and our experiences in our lifetime which have wounded us.
I have had roughly 186 lifetimes in this quadrant of time. While I have documented many of them, there are particular lifetimes that are highly significant and relevant to the here and now. When I work with individuals I am focused on that aspect of their past – what is relevant to a person’s current life experiences and challenges.
For me, the main focus has been on deep forgiveness of “perceived errors of the past” and releasing those memories, in addition to the realization of the fulfillment of commitments made long ago to be here now and to participate in what truly is a monumental time on our planet and humanity’s transition.
I read a little bit about “star beings” on your website. What is a star being?
There are a certain number of individuals alive today (in the millions) who have experienced life on other planets before incarnating here. To some way of thinking they are the proverbial “old souls” because they have in fact, had a longer journey than newer souls, culminating here, now. In terms of their soul contract, they are committed to applying themselves in a very significant way to our planet’s evolution. They will, at some point, wake-up to their soul essence and recognize their true identify, instead of just plodding along, submitting to the conditioning of the cultural, societal and familial mores.
What kind of services do you offer via your website, http://www.starsourceonline.com/
I am a spiritual mentor, meaning that I work with an individual to assist them to recognize their mission and to assist in the healing of their emotional scars, to help them to put their life circumstances in perspective and assist them to move out of guilt, shame, fear, hopelessness, indifference and a multitude of other emotional limitations and/or blocks.
What could someone expect that purchases services on your website? What type of person should be interested in a session with you?
First of all, they may expect to be surprised. I say that because, for me, my work is ultimately about love – and offers a person the opportunity to open their hearts to a more elevated way of being where love takes precedence, where love is the guiding force and where love opens doors never opened before. If a person wants to experience that, and is willing to grow in terms of loving themselves by taking the first step towards healing and balancing their past, their life may change in ways that may be extraordinary. Key word here is choice, a person must first choose.
Having been an adult actress for several years, sexuality has played a major role in your adult life. How does sexuality factor in to your belief system and does it continue to play a major role?
Sexuality has played a role for me in terms of opening doors to my true work, here, now. From my career came a wealth of information about sexuality and, more specifically, a deep understanding of the dynamics of sexual shame. Back when I was acting, the Internet didn’t exist and I couldn’t possibly have known that I would have a website and a global doorway to making available my services. In my personal life it’s a very, minor issue.

Taboo
You wrote a book in 2001 titled, Taboo: Sacred, Don’t Touch, please tell the readers what the book is about and where they can purchase the book.
I wrote the book (which I began 10 years before I published it) at the urging of others. In public presentations and lectures, I had used anecdotal stories from my career to illustrate what I had learned, not only about myself, but about the entire area of sexuality. It seemed only natural that a biographical book should follow, but when it came down to it, to be true to myself, I had to tell the whole story – the bigger picture – and that meant including past lives. This is why I subtitled the book “A Biographical Journey spanning Six Thousand years.” The book is available in audio (read by me) or text form on my website www.starsourceonline.com . At the moment, I don’t have hard copies available.
Are you currently married or have you ever been married?
No and No.
Do you have any children?
No.
Where do you live?
I live in southern California, outside Los Angeles
Outside of your beliefs and profession what do you like to do for fun? What are your hobbies or interests?
I am a movie buff and I love good music. I love to walk and enjoy the wonderful Pacific Ocean. All my other activities relate in some way to my work, which is my life.
Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
I am always in awe of the generosity of my fans. Each time someone connects with me, I am grateful. I encourage you to not be shy about learning more about who you are, to embrace their higher purpose and to be willing to deeply connect to your soul’s mission. I’m here to help. If my assistance can make the difference between a life lived with quality and meaning, fulfillment and passion, I encourage you to make the investment. Blessings.

5. Please give all of us some info, who are not familiar with a solo
site like yours
A solo site is a term we use in the industry to describe a girl like myself. Solo meaning, her website only.
No men and the main focus is she. Forget the fake boobs, tattoos, and all the other 90’s porn rave stuff. Solo girls started the real girl next-door look, because we were just that. Real girls next door.
6. Who are the people in the industry that you are dying to work with?
At this point I have not done any girl/girl scenes for over 3 years. I work best alone.
7. Who are your favorite people to work with?
My favorite people to work with that would have to be the entire Silver cash team. They are all wonderful!

10. How would you like to see your careers progress in the future?
I would have to say I have some great offers right now. One being with Doron Ofir of MTV and all TV network castings. We have been exchanging emails. He wants me to do the Paris Hilton’s BFF reality show.
11. Do your friends and family know that you are in the industry and
do they support your decision?
My family probably knows. My friends, yes. I have always done what I wanted despite what others think. Their opinion never mattered because I did this for me and no one else.
12. What sort of things were you interested in when you were younger?
I loved cheerleading. I was a spirit sparkler at age 8. I played a lot of sports and I always made good grades and even volunteered in my community. In High School I was student class president and the captain of my cheer squad all 4 years.
13. What personality trait or traits would your friends say best
described you as young girls? Also please explain your answer.
I mainly focused on school and myself. I didn’t drink, party or do anything I wasn’t supposed to. People always knew me as being very nice, caring, and a leader. I took pride in being independent.
14. Share a silly, stupid, funny or embarrassing story that happened
recently that you can share with our fans?
I was at the fair 2 weeks ago with my little brothers and this 15 young girl sat next to me. She was so sad. I asked her what was wrong and she said she was pregnant. I knew what she was doing so I gave her my number and told her to call if she ever needed anything. I have the biggest heart in the world and sometimes it is silly. I am starting a non-profit organization for children.
15. Single or taken?
Single

A full body massage
19. Are there any projects or special events coming up that you would
like to promote, if so please do so?
I have an upcoming fashion show for Hustler I am participating in.
Playboy Golf is starting at the end of this month. In May I will be in Portland Oregon hosting a party at www.bettiefordlounge.com
I planned everything. I decided on a foam party because I love wearing bikinis. I will change a few times in the night to make sure I look my best. There will be a bathtub where I will take pictures with my fans. I am very excited about this event!
You can find more info, pictures and video of Ms. Kelly at www.Dreamkelly.com
I recently contacted Dave Cummings for an interview and he agreed. Dave is a cool guy who is living the dream… literally. Dave even included an essay he wrote to help people interested in getting involved in the adult business (see the end of the post).
In a business that can sometimes be dark and disturbing, Dave is a positive force and takes such a light-hearted approach. This man is a distinguished ex-military officer and seems more likely to be enjoying his golden years golfing or fishing than heading-up his own porn business. I mean he is performing with women young enough to be his granddaughter for Pete’s sake. You’ve got to admire what he has accomplished so late in life. He is pulling more ass than a 25 year-old-stud could imagine, and he obviously has no plans of leaving this Earth without a huge smile plastered across his face. Dave has such a positive outlook on life and the Porn valley needs more men like him.
Here is the interview …
1. Where were and when were you born?
Saratoga Springs, NY; March 13, 1940
2. What were you like as a child?
Normal childhood; oldest child, three younger brothers, altar boy, newspaper delivery route, golf caddie, sports, family-oriented, girlfriends, church-going, good student, happy, and frequent masturbator!
Funny!
3. What is your educational background?
Catholic grade school, public high school, Catholic college where I earned a B.S. in Economics and a Regular Army Commission as a Second Lieutenant via ROTC, Masters Degree in public administration at a NON-Catholic university
4. What branch of the military did you serve?
Army, initially as an Artillery Officer, and later as an Adjutant General’s Corp officer.
5. How long did you serve?
Two years as an enlisted man in the National Guard, and 25 years as an Army officer.
6. What was your rank when you retired?
Lieutenant Colonel (retiring in 1988, and began working in the financial world as a licensed options broker, and later as a licensed mortgage senior loan officer
7. How old were you when you decided to start your porn career?
54 years old, and my first sex scene was filmed and released in Sep, 1994
8. How did you get involved with the business?
Via the world of swinging and a Playboy TV program that was being filmed about swinging, which brought me to an amateur set where I was holding a light but was called into action when the porn guy couldn’t do the money shot; the next day I was in two back-to-back sex scenes, and the next month I performed with Juli Ashton in “The Devil in Miss Jones, Part 5”.
9. What made you decide that you wanted to be a porn star?
It looked like fun, and seemed challenging to access it—being old, and in the right place at the right time in 1994, gave me an edge of sorts!
10. You were married for many years, did your divorce play a role in your decision to become a porn actor?
No, not at all; I was divorced in 1985, entered swinging in 1986, and started my porn career in 1994.
11. What was it like performing in your first adult scene?
Fun! Fun! Fun! Since I was a “stunt” money shot stand-in with no warning that I was going to be needed until just minutes before I popped the needed money shot, I had no time/chance to experience “performance anxiety” ; had I known beforehand, I probably would have been nervous. Certainly, I would have had a fresh haircut – all three pieces!:-)
12. Have you ever encountered porn actresses that find it difficult, or refuse to perform with a man of your age?
Only once, and that worked out ok. I’ve always insured that the women knew that I was an old guy, and I always ask if their past or anything might make working with me awkward for them. The one time that a porn actress admitted that she had a past problem with an older man I quickly-but-quietly arranged with the Director to switch girls around so that I worked with one whom I had previously “worked with” the previous week, and the original girl was able to work the following scene with a guy who was young enough not to cause flashbacks for her. I try to always be considerate of the actresses.
Very gentlemanly.
13. You have done some directing and have a website, please tell us about that.
In 1996, I produced and directed seven volumes of “Eat at Dave’s” for another company; then I started Dave Cummings Productions where I produced/directed/”acted” in 24 volumes of “Sugardaddy, 9 volumes of “Sex Fun”, and 9 volumes (thus far—Vol 10 is in editing now) of “Knee Pad Nymphos”. I own 15,000+ Internet domains, 9,300 of which are adult domains, including my two primary websites, www.davecummings.com and www.davecummings.tv . Although I have my own production company, I still perform for other companies like Wicked Pictures, Elegant Angel, Wildlife Productions, etc.
14. Do your children and grandchildren know what you do?
My children know and have no problem with what I do; in fact, my 41-year old son considers me a hero, and brags to girls that he’s my son; my 43-year old daughter is glad that I’m happy and having fun. My oldest granddaughters, ages 20 and 18, know but haven’t indicated any objection to my “career”. My 12-year old grandson and 6-year old granddaughter haven’t indicated that they are aware of what “Grandpa Dave” does for his job.
15. How do you feel about your current profession?
I feel good about the Adult Industry, and the way it helps normal adults enjoy adult entertainment and their own sex lives. Sex is part of life on Earth, and is a God-given gift that’s natural, normal, and healthy (emotionally, sexually, and physically –sex/masturbation provides stress relief, focus, and increased productivity). Some right-wing religious hypocrites don’t embrace the aforementioned all the time, but I suspect they love and appreciate our profession when they are “enjoying” the fantasies and entertainment that we provide for their prurient needs.
Well said.
16. What is it that you like most about being the “oldest living porn star?”
Actually now that an older guy has surfaced in Japan, I’m merely the oldest still-performing American porn star. I’m happy that viewers seeing me, and noticing that I’m old and ugly and have wrinkles, baldness, overweight problems, etc are better able to fantasize that if Dave Cummings can have sex with that girl, then perhaps the viewer also could get “lucky” if circumstances allowed it. Bottom line—because I’m old and have physical faults, it makes the fantasies of the viewer (namely, that it’s HIM doing the sex with the porn actress) more available, achievable, and realistic.
17. Approximately how many women have you performed with?
I’ve been in well over 1,000 sex scenes, some of which include multiple women in orgies like the one in Vol 50 of “Screw My Wife, Please”, but in some cases I’ve done more than one scene with the same girl in different movies; so, it’s difficult to come up with a number. But, one time on a long flight to Hong Kong I spent hours trying to recall and number all the women in the swinging world and in the Porn world—counting updates (like the four women I had sex with last Saturday night at a private swinger house party), I think I’m presently someplace between 2,600-2,625 females.
Lucky fucking bastard! I am so fucking jealous its not even funny!
18. Be honest, do you rely on Viagra to perform?
When I entered porn in 1994, there was no Viagra — I had to use the “Hail Mary” and “Our Father” to get ready for a sex scene. For the last 15 years, I’ve had to take a nightly pill for an enlarged prostate (it’s common in older men, and it’s a condition which causes getting up frequently during the night to urinate) which prohibits me from using the other Viagra-like medications because of potential serious side-effects. I tried Viagra, and I seem to be one of those who gets some, but usually only limited help, from it. Thus, for years, I stubbornly refused to routinely use it, especially since it made doing the money shot more difficult for me. Now, however, I take it if I’m doing back-to-back scenes for Dave Cummings Productions (where it’s more effective to shoot two scenes with actresses who drives from Los Angeles to San Diego for a few hours of shooting), and on some sets where I’m performing for other companies and don’t want to let them down. I will be 69 in early 2009, so Viagra is sometimes needed at my age.
19. How much longer do you plan on performing in adult films?
Indefinitely! I’ll quit only if, and when, it stops being fun for me—it’s presently too much fun to even think about retiring from performing!
20. Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
Yes, at the end of this answer is a comprehensive “essay” I wrote for folks wanting to get inside the porn industry, be it as writers, performers, crew, directors, etc –it might be an interesting “read” for you. Just like NCOs really run the military, fans are the ones who rule porn, God bless the fans!

GETTING INTO THE PORN INDUSTRY
BY: Dave Cummings—-Porn Star/Producer/Director
Many individuals, both female and male, fantasize about becoming a porn star, or somehow finding a way to get into the Porn Industry. Some folks want to be in front of the camera as actual porn stars, while some just want to be involved with porn productions and become an “insider”. Now that the Internet has flourished, it’s become another avenue into porn for those seeking entry. Let’s look at some of the different routes one might travel in their quest to be involved with the world of porn.
For reasonably attractive females with nice figures, it’s relatively easy. Knowing someone already in the Industry might facilitate their journey into porn, otherwise they’ll need to do some Internet research to find and contact an agent or manager, preferably a reputable one in the Los Angeles area where most porn productions take place. In the past, there has been a steady stream of new legal-age girls wanting the adventure and/or money and/or fame of becoming a starlet; but, in the last few years there’s been a significant increase, indeed almost a flood, in the numbers of women hoping to become famous and affluent porn stars and to later return to their high school class reunions and bask in the glow of stardom. The name of the game during recent years is the demand for new fresh faces; this often results in pursuits by producers and directors seeking to hire new starlets as a means of increasing sales. Thus new wannabe porn starlets are in demand. New girls can make a lot of money, especially when they first enter the Industry; but, unless they are especially good at their craft or have extraordinary professionalism and drive to make porn a career, the need for the even newer fresh faces soon becomes a challenge for their longevity as the even “newer” incoming girls seem to nudge some of the existing faces out of the limelight. The exceptional girls who end up making it a longer term career usually are well known for their dependability, punctuality, a solid enjoyment of sex which is exhibited by truly hot sex scene performances, personality, and high standards of all-around professionalism.
Let’s look now at the issue of men wanting to become porn studs. Prior to the days of prescription pills to aid and enhance one’s sexual performance abilities, the number of porn studs in the Industry was much smaller than at present, and viewers had to endure seeing the same core group of us guys over and over. The reason why we were qualified as career porn studs was our “functionality”, something that still applies today; candidly, even some new guys presently masking their use of pharmaceutical assistance still seem to sometimes get “stage fright” and some seem to have difficulty doing a timely “money shot”. I’ll discuss the functionality matter a little later.
Because I (and many other Adult Industry individuals and entities) receive hundreds and hundreds of serious inquiries every month from guys wanting to know how they can become porn stars, I’ve written up this general response. As a Producer and Director, I’d love to have a much larger pool of proven male performers so that female viewers could enjoy watching handsome studs performing with some girl while the female viewer fantasizes about herself actually being the girl in the video. I sense that the porn viewers now include more and more women and couples, unlike the past when most viewers were masturbating men.
The problem here is for me to be candid without hurting anyone’s feelings; there’s no easy way to tell guys that the chance of them getting even a “try-out” or an audition is remote (actually, there no longer is such a thing as an “audition”, let alone getting one with a new applicant’s favorite porn starlet!). The present lack of “want ads” for new studs has little to do with new aspirants, but rather results from the informal system that’s evolved over time based mostly upon past experiences of disappointed Directors who let themselves be talked into using some previous new guys who touted themselves as true studs (which they well might have been in their private life, but unfortunately were not when they got in front of cameras on a set with people watching—new guys with performance difficulties are nightmares for Directors, crews, and everyone involved with the shoot, including the starlet scheduled to have sex on film with the aspirant). Probably, the new guy who wants to get into performing undoubtedly is a true stud with the ladies or his significant other, and/or in a group situation like a swinger’s party, but merely deciding to become a porn star does not get him even considered anymore. The present lack of enthusiasm for giving new guys a shot at a career as a porn stud was informally established when similar men in the past were strongly recommended by someone (perhaps even by someone in the Industry, or by a starlet or female with first-hand knowledge), only to have “performance anxiety” and freeze up in front of the cameras, lights, and sometimes his inpatient co-star as well as the crew/director/producer, other actors and actresses, make-up persons, on-lookers, catering people, magazine photographers, location owners and their “gawking” friends/neighbors/relatives, company owners and staff, Industry media, online gossip or news columnists, etc. A new guy who loses his “functionality” causes loss of production time and filming momentum, and possibly additional expenses in overtime charges for the location, rental equipment, and crew. Resultantly, Directors and Producers usually will not accept new guys, no matter who recommends them or how impressive the new guy or his girlfriend says his penile “credentials” and sexual performance abilities are. It’s been my experience, and that of many insiders, that new guys are absolutely certain and insistent that they can adequately perform in a functionary manner, but most still fail no matter how much confidence they exhibit, sometimes in spite of the prescription pills they might have privately ingested.
If so many serious and motivated “potential porn stud applicants” contact me constantly, can you imagine how many are writing/emailing/phoning the porn girls, insiders and other porn guys like me, studios, magazines, crews, gentlemen’s clubs etc? Yet, even with new guys masking their use of pharmaceuticals and/or sometimes being part of a male-female couple, I see only 5-6 credible new guys a year making it into the business; and, even some of these get “cut from the roster” if they don’t possess adequate and consistent functionality. It doesn’t seem to matter (or be an adequate excuse to the studio owners, producers, directors, crews, starlets, or anyone else adversely affected by delays due to sub-par functionality) if the new guy just ran an exhausting marathon, was taking decongestants or antihistamines for a sinus blockage or a cold, or unavoidably got only a few hours sleep the previous night—-it’s an unforgiving business decision not to take a chance using the new guy ever again. Worse, the word of a new guy’s non-functionality seems to spread like the speed of light throughout the Industry. There’s a lot of pressure on the male performer; unlike his female co-star, he can’t fake sexual excitement nor can he hide climaxing too soon before the director gives him the directive to do the “money shot”. Instead, the guy has to have a solid and almost-constant erection whenever the camera is rolling, and for the hour-plus it usually takes to film the hardcore portion of the scene, and in spite of the constant stopping and restarting for such things as changing a camera battery, relocating lighting, stopping for required photos of the action, shifting back and forth between the hardcore and the cable-television non-hardcore filming, starlet make-up touch ups, potty breaks, cigarette breaks for cast/crew, water, the sound of someone’s ringing or vibrating cell phone, or a passing airplane, or the starting-up of a lawn mower down the street, and on and on!
The key for a new guy is all centered around functionality, namely: getting an erection quickly; not climaxing too soon; and, indeed being able to do a money shot somewhat soon after the Director calls for it. Sometimes, new guys taking prescription medications intended to help them with their sexual performance have difficulty getting the money shot to happen quickly enough. Since “FUNCTIONALITY” is the name of the game for guys, let me reiterate that penis size, looks, muscles, and acting ability mean almost nothing for a guy. What DOES matter is the guy’s ability to get an almost instant erection in front of people on a set, to maintain functionality for the period of the shoot including being able to get “wood” erected quickly after the many stop-n-go interruptions during the shoot, to control the erection so as to not cum before the Director gives the OK, and, upon being directed to climax, the guy should do it relatively quickly without wasting the time of the starlet or the production folks.
Of course, guys must arrive on set on time, bring the correct wardrobe, have perfect personal hygiene in every way, bring their not-more-than 30 days old Adult Industry Medical (AIM) tests done via the state-of-the-art PCR/DNA testing regimen for chlamydia/gonorrhea/HIV, and bring their ID’s, including one government-issued ID showing the guy’s photo and date of birth on it. I always bring my State Driver’s license and my Department of Defense military ID card. Like I teach in my www.howtomakeadultvideos.com classes, in The Adult Industry, there’s real time, military time, and porn time – yes, porn time is usually the latest of them, so be prepared to sit around for possibly hours waiting for your sex scene to (finally) begin!
OK, so other than being a multi-millionaire who buys a porn company, what possibilities exist for a new guy to get paid to have sex with beautiful women in the Adult Industry? Well, one direct way is for the aspiring new guy to “discover” a SUPER-beautiful new girl who will agree to enter the Industry while letting him ride her coat-tails, and demanding that he be the exclusive stud she will ever “work with” on film (“work with” is our term for having sex in porn shoots). This can sometimes work if the girl is truly sizzling hot; it’s important, though, to understand that every year there are many hundreds of new girls entering the Industry seeking a shot at becoming a famous porn star, almost all of whom will work with any of the already-proven porn guys the Producer/Director wants to hire. A new aspirant’s “coat-tail” girl must therefore be so much more attractive than the other new girls, as well as the already-established other girls, that the Director will want her in his production so much that he might agree to her demand of working only with “her” new guy. Candidly, be aware that some new coat-tail girls might sever the deal with new guys at this stage if it means that they might lose THEIR chance to get a shot if the Director balks at hiring the new guy; after all, it means the Director must take a production cost chance on the coat-tail girl and her new guy, a risk he doesn’t have to take if he instead books one of the many other girls who will work with any of the famous star studs of the Director’s choosing. It might help if a new guy has and shows the Director a couple of tapes of him performing with girls in front of 10 or 20 other people to prove that he doesn’t get stage fright in front of lots of people. If the new guy and his coat-tail girl get some initial bookings and do well with them and another 8-10 shoots, perhaps he can then let it be known that he’s available for bookings with other girls in gangbangs and other productions; if the new guy performs successfully and meets the “functionality” criteria consistently, he’ll join the ranks of the already proven porn studs. Unlike the girls who make a lot of money, we guys are merely props to the point that the pay per sex scene is considerably less than what the girls make!
Another possible way to get into porn is via porn productions. Although the bi-monthly classes I teach in adult film-making are comprehensive and include information for couples wanting to film for their own private viewing or for doing “Cam” shows on the Internet, most students want to become producers as a means of making money and/or getting laid! Once a new producer firmly establishes himself or herself as a reputable player in the adult film arena, contact can then be established with agents and managers of porn talent (“talent” is the term for the women and men who appear in front of the camera) and start arranging bookings. It’s not surprising to find that some male producers hire themselves as the male talent, and then hire female porn stars whom they are especially sexually excited about working with. And, some new female producers might inject themselves into sex scenes with either males or females. The AIM testing I mentioned above comes into play, as professional talent mandates the tests, even if a condom will be used for the filming – after all, condoms do sometimes break or malfunction! I’ll return to productions per se in a bit, but first some information about other possible ways to be involved with productions, or to somehow find oneself as an “insider”.
A crew for porn shoots can be as few as a cameraman and a still photographer (to take shots for DVD box covers, as well as for marketing materials); but, some sets have large crews, such as additional cameramen for multi-angle and/or cable version footage as well as for “behind-the-scenes” filming for inclusion into the DVD “extras”. Sets can also have a Director (sometimes in addition to the Producer), Production Assistants, lighting and audio specialists, and ancillary folks for doing make-up, catering, paperwork, etc. Disappointingly, except for the large gangbangs, very few sets have “fluffers” any more (girls who orally “prepare” porn studs to do the on-camera performing). Producers/Directors seem to prefer using the same experienced crewmembers they’ve previously hired. Additions to crews usually come from recommendations from other directors, present crews, and talent, thus providing a basis for experience and professionalism. Directors and crews sometimes hire new crew folks who they find out about from various other sources, but they prefer people who won’t make production mistakes or hit on the girls while working on the set. As an aside, there’s no such thing as “Crew Appreciation Day” where porn girls give oral pleasure to crewmembers, so don’t expect any action if you get lucky and land a job through your Uncle Louie as an Assistant Production Assistant, or whatever. If you’re wondering if crewmembers ever get a shot at performing, I understand that some have had the opportunity to occasionally do “stunt” cum shots for porn studs who were having a bad day—because of the AIM and Industry-mandated testing regimen, such money shots are never to the girl’s face or near her orifices. Yes, crewmembers sometimes get to date porn girls on a personal level.
Script writing opportunities to get on sets or become an insider might offer some possibilities; however, scripts seem to be somewhat favored from an inner circle of already established “insider” authors. I understand that scripts provided by new writers result in payment of only hundreds, not thousands, of dollars. Since porn films and their budgets aren’t usually in the same league with productions such as “Gone With The Wind”, the Directors often write their own scripts. And, since there’s so much non-feature porn presently being produced, dialogue is often determined, staged, and improvised on the spot.
Some folks contact producers/directors agents, talent, and production companies with the offers of production investor funding. Although this sometimes gets outsiders inside, I need to return now to the general matter of productions per se and opine that we presently have a glut of new producers and a lot of excess footage and films looking for Distributors; thus, like the real estate markets have peaks and valleys, this might not be a good time for investing in films. Nevertheless, being involved with productions does offer a way to enter the world of porn. My class and its content at my www.howtomakeadultvideos.com site goes into significant detail about things like distribution, legalities and permits, cameras, lighting, resources, budgets, locations, shooting techniques, production ins and outs, casting, agents/managers, editing, packaging, marketing, happenings and problem-solving on porn sets, revenue sources, and a host of other aspects. Bottom line, getting into some aspect of production is a way for possibly entering the world of porn.
Another possibility is the Internet. More and more, we’re seeing adult Internet companies actually shooting content (photos and video), instead of licensing it from content providers or streaming video feeds. The advantage to shooting such content is the exclusiveness of the content, instead of their sites using some of the same content that can be seen at many other sites. Additionally, their output can later be placed on DVD and/or Video-On-Demand delivery systems, thus making them quasi-porn production folks. I sense that porn companies and adult Internet organizations might someday mix and match, sort of converging into cooperative entities, maybe even consolidating. I think the present adult Internet direction provides another avenue for entry into the porn world. Aspiring porn studs who have contacts with adult Internet folks or who know “Cam” girls who sometimes put on shows with guys might want to explore entry into the adult Internet content business as either producers or talent members as a way to get into porn?
All of the above is my personal opinion, and even though it might not sound encouraging, I had to be truthful and candid. I think my comments are on target. Keep in mind that you’re not alone in wanting to be a porn stud or production guy or insider—millions of others fantasize about it too, and hope that they personally have what it takes to become the next big-name male porn star. From time to time I’ll add to these comments via my “From The Trenches” or “Getting Into The Porn Industry” links at my www.davecummings.com, so I recommend that you check them out every once in a while; in fact, some past “From The Trenches” columns already discuss the present porn production situation.
Good luck,
Dave Cummings
Porn Star/Producer/Director
I recently was able to secure a brief interview with Hyapatia Lee. Hyapatia is a porn starlet from the 80’s and is considered one of the most important adult film actresses from the golden age of porn. She is known for her Native American heritage and is one of the most uniquely beautiful women to ever perform in hardcore adult films. Several years ago she walked away from the the business that made her famous and settled down in the Midwest. In the interview we discuss her early life, her marriage to porn actor and director Bud Lee, and her life as it is today.
Where were you born?
I was born on the west side of Indianapolis, Indiana.
I read that your mother was very young when she gave birth to you and that you were raised by your grandmother. What was your home life like early on?
I grew up with only my grandmother in the house. My mom was a big fan of race car drivers (I grew up next to Speedway, Indy 500, ya know) and she followed them around on the road. My grandmother was very close to her sister and we went over to her house often.
Where did you live?
I lived in Indianapolis until my mother got married and I moved with my step-father, half brother and mother to Cape Coral Florida where I was in a drum and bugle corps.
How many siblings do you have?
I have no complete siblings, only half brothers and a half sister.
What were you like as a young child?
As a young child I was shy with others, but loved being on stage. I did my first solo tap dance at the age of 4. One of those dance recitals, you know. I studied ballet and tap first, gymnastics for a short time, and then jazz or modern dance.
I also read that your grandmother was full-blood Cherokee. Was your mother or father full-blooded Cherokee as well?
My father is half Cherokee and half Irish. Mom is full blood.
Which makes you…
That makes me 75% Cherokee, 1/4 Irish.
I read that you eventually lived with your mother and stepfather and that your stepfather was abusive. What exactly happened and how has that affected your life?
As far as my step fathers abuse and how it affected me, that would take a book to answer. As a matter of fact, I have written it. but in a nut shell, it affected me just like psychiatry says it does. One feels dirty and that one is only good for sex.
How long did you live with your mother and stepfather and where did you move to immediately after?
I moved to Indianapolis to live with my grandmother again after having spent 5 years with my biological mother.
Where was your biological father? Did you have a relationship with him?
My biological father was in Indianapolis although I did not know him. I had to look his name up in a phone book not knowing if he still lived in Indy or not. We do not have a relationship.
Describe your teenage years. What type of a person were you? What were your interests?
In my teenage years I was a theater nut, I did 72 different plays and musicals in 3 years. I was always in two or three things at once. I did all my acting in local community theater and some in my high school.
How old were you when you lost your virginity?
I lost my virginity at 16 to a guy I was acting opposite of in a musical.
Did you experiment with drugs?
I did not experiment with drugs. I was an overachiever, a straight A student.
Where did you go to high school and did you graduate?
George Washington high school, yes I graduated, in 3 years. I got all the credits I needed and they gave me a diploma. I did not have to go my senior year at all.
Did you go to college and if so where? Did you graduate?
I took singing, ballet, tap, jazz, modern dance at Butler University. That is the extent of my college education.
How did you first become involved in the adult entertainment industry?
I started dancing, stripping, in a local club with a girl I had worked with in theater.
How old were you at the time?
19.
What factors in your life do you feel lead you to the adult business?
I got raped 2 months after moving out of my grandmothers house. I lived next to a theater and a man broke into my apartment while I was sleeping. From there I went to a mental patient half-way house and into lots of therapy and therapeutic drugs. I have split personalities which intensified during this time as a result of what happened and a new personality was born – Hyapatia.
How did you meet Bud Lee and when did you marry him?
Through my therapist. We went on the road together as a feature stripper and were introduced to magazine work via the Miss Nude Galaxy contest, which I won, twice. From there it was an easy step to the movies.
I read that he took your last name “Lee” following Cherokee tradition. Is this true?
Yes he took my last name.
What were some of the adult magazines you posed for?
I was in every men’s magazine on the market at least once. Including Playboy and Penthouse.
You performed in a lot of girl-girl scenes. Are you truly bi-sexual in your personal life?
I am not bi, never have been in a relationship with a woman or whatever, but my mother is.
How many children did you and Bud Lee have together?
We had 2 children, both boys.
Why did you get divorced from Bud?
We got divorced for the same reasons any couple gets divorced, we fell out of love… and into hate.
Was he abusive?
Yes Bud was abusive. He still owes me over $20,000 in back child support.
So what is your relationship with Bud like now?
We remain friendly to each other only out of necessity.
Was he ever supportive you and your children? Is he actively involved in his children’s lives?
He was not supportive while they were growing up, but he did pay for the oldest’s college education.
Why did you quit performing in adult films? What factors lead to your retirement?
I got out because of AIDS and companies no longer being willing to work with condoms.
I read that you “faked your own death” in 1998. Is this true or just Internet rumor? If it is true why did you do it?
I closed my fan club because I was tired of answering letters for free which lead to the whole “faked her own death thing.”
I heard that you are also a musician and have performed as the lead singer in a couple of rock bands. Please tell us more about your musical career.
My music career with my band took me all over America, and we released a CD. Before that, I had done a record with a country music record company, SRO. It was fun, but exhausting. I could make far more money dancing for a lot less effort.
Tell us about your book. What parts of your life does it focus on? What can readers expect when purchasing the book?
The book was written with the help of my journals, 12 in all, that I kept through the years. That is the only way I could keep it all straight and remember what I was supposed to be doing.
Where do you live now?
I live in Indiana.
What is your life like today?
I lead a normal life, I suppose. Except for my multiple personality thing.
Do you work or stay at home with the kids?
Now I am a stay at home mom. I have a 7 year old I home-school. I home-schooled my other two also. My oldest was valedictorian when he finally went to public school. He is going to graduate UCLA this year as a physics major.
What are your interests, activities and hobbies?
I do a lot of theater and garden a lot.
How can your fans stay in touch with you?
Fans can reach me at myspace (http://www.myspace.com/hyapatialee1) or at hyapatialee@gmail.com. They can purchase my music and book there. I bill through Paypal.
Thank you for the interview.
Teri Weigel is best known for being one of the only Playboy Playmates to ever appear in hardcore porn. After Playboy she was also able to land mainstream roles in Miami Vice, Married With Children and The Prededtor 2.
Teri’s latest gig is on a fishing boat that operates out of Fort Pierce, FL. Smokin’ Em Charters is a deep sea fishing operation that started to offer charters with bikini clad women in January of 2008. Once the boats get 3 miles off shore the women go topless for the patrons.
In March, Smokin’ Em was kicked out of Fisherman’s Wharf Marina but quickly found another marina around Fort Pierce, FL and setup shop there.
Weigel, now 46, has appearead in adult films as late as 2007. She has had a long career in the adult industry and has worn many hats. She started as a model, to mainstream, to softcore, hardcore, feature dancer, bunny ranch girl and now fishing boat girl. Teri will surely keep us entertained for years to come.
I found an interview that Teri did back in 2004 and have also pasted her Wikipedia entry for anyone who wants to read all the specifics of her life and long career.

The third of five children, Teri was raised within a devoutly Catholic family in the conservative city of Deerfield Beach, Florida. A natural beauty, she began modeling in her teens, appearing in catalogs for Saks Fifth Avenue and other high-end companies. She later moved to New York and signed with a major modeling agency, which placed her in “Seventeen” magazine and other publications. Modeling gigs in Europe followed. Upon her return to Florida, Teri entered her first beauty contest and was named Miss Deerfield in 1979.
As a result of Teri’s lingerie work for Saks and others, Playboy Magazine soon came calling. She did some test shots for the magazine, and was asked to become a Centerfold. Teri graced the cover of the November ‘85 issue, and appeared as the Centerfold in April 1986. Teri found posing nude liberating, and she enjoyed the fame and money that came with being a Playboy Centerfold.
Teri worked for Playboy for a couple of years, producing several well-received videos. But company gigs eventually became fewer and fewer. Worse, Playboy refused to help promote her mainstream television and film work, which ranged from multiple appearances on Fox’s “Married With Children” to roles in “Predator 2″, “Marked for Death” with Steven Seagall, “Sunset” with Bruce Willis and James Garner, and cult genre flicks such as “Auntie Lee’s Meat Pies” with Karen Black, “Cheerleader Camp” and John Landis’s “Innocent Blood”.
It quickly became obvious that Teri had outlived her usefulness as a Centerfold, and Playboy unceremoniously kicked her to the curb. (It was the beginning of an acrimonious relationship that continues to this day.) As mainstream jobs became increasingly fewer, Teri finally considered a career in hardcore porn – something no other Playboy Centerfold had ever done (or has done since). Because of this decision, Teri became persona non grata within Playboy, which has gone to extraordinary lengths to squelch her porn career. In one notable example, Hugh Hefner actually called Bob Guccione asking him not to make Teri a Penthouse Pet. As a result, she has appeared only in smaller pictorials.
Wisely capitalizing on her fame and exposure a Centerfold, Teri quickly became a sensation within the porn industry. She had her breasts enlarged (something she says she did for her own self-esteem, not because she had to) and almost immediately achieved superstar status as a result of her remarkable enthusiasm as a performer. To date she has made nearly 50 adult videos. Much of Teri’ continued success is a result of her uncanny ability to re-invent herself within an industry infamous for using then tossing aside its talent, and this has kept her in the forefront for nearly a decade.
Layers: What’s the best part about what you do?
Teri Weigel: Probably the fact that I’m able to be myself. Unrestricted. No rules.
Layers: What’s the worst part?
Teri: The traveling. I have 9 puppies at home and I have to leave them almost every week. I work about 40 weeks out of the year. I come home on Sunday and leave again on Tuesday or Wednesday. I only get to see my puppies like three days out of the week.
Layers: Have you had any problems in the past with obsessive fans?
Teri: Not really. I can usually handle people. No gory stories.
Layers: And you’ve been married for 16 years, correct?
Teri: Yes.
Layers: What’s the secret to maintaining a marriage not only outside of the adult industry, but especially being in the industry?
Teri: It’s hard. It takes a lot of communicating and talking to your spouse about the things that trouble you or about the things that you are interested in. The most important thing is the communication. There are times when I’ll be up against the wall with certain things that are brought up and you have to learn that when it comes to men that it’s “give and take” in order to get a step ahead. And as far as being in the adult industry, that’s just helped the relationship because of the honesty that comes with it. We were put in a position were we were forced to be honest with each other and it worked for us.
(Murrill Maglio, Teri’s husband, is in charge of most of Teri’s career on the business ends. He’s also directed approximately ten adult video, one of which won an award at the Adult Video News Awards circa 1995.)
Layers: Where did you guys meet?
Teri: We met in West Palm Beach Florida. He was doin’ a gig with his band and my sister was dating the keyboard player at the time. I was home visiting from Paris. That’s where I was living at the time because I was modeling. And we just started talking at the bar in between the gigs. He told me that he was going through a separation with his wife and are relationship began and ended that night. Then a couple months down the road, my sister told me that he asked to see me and I came in again.
Layers: And all of this happened even before Playboy?
Teri: Yes.
Layers: So you guys have been together since the beginning.
Teri: Yes. And it was hard with Playboy because Playboy didn’t want us to be married.
Layers: Why didn’t they want you to be married?
Teri: Because you are considered to be a “Miss” of a month. I was Miss April and they wanted you to stay single for as long as you could so you could be available for parties or whatever they wanted to throw you into. So we kept it quite for almost a year until one of the other Playmates blabbed her mouth. And Hef (Hugh Hefner, Playboy Publisher) was pretty pissed. Cuz I worked a lot for them. I was one of there top girls.
Layers: So how did that original Playboy deal come together?
Teri: About two months after I began dating Murrill, Playboy held a casting call for “See Through Fashions” in Miami. I had just gotten back from Paris and I had established a great look. I did a lot of stuff over there and I had a great portfolio put together and they picked me. They flew me to some island over the Atlantic and they did a small pictorial with me and another girl from the same agency I was with. And the make-up artist said that I would make a great Playmate and that I should go to Chicago and test shoot. So I waited a couple of months and Murrill thought that it would be a great opportunity for me. So I listened to him and I called Playboy and told them that I wanted to test to be a Playmate. They flew me to Chicago and we shot. And the shots turned out beautiful. I never saw myself look so good in a picture. The photographers were brilliant. It was the first time that I did anything like that and I was excited because of how good I looked nude. Then about a month later they called me and told me that they wanted me for the cover. And my cover ended up getting bumped for Madonna because there was a big scandal going on with her at the time. And I was pissed because I would have been the first cover girl in the staple-less issue. So I was the cover girl for the second staple-less issue.
Layers: What was Playboys initial reaction when you first made your venture into the world of hardcore?
Teri: It was almost hypocritical because Playboy began to venture out into cable with the Playboy Channel. And because me and Murrill were married, they decided to use us together in scenes. And the people who were shooting these “soft-core” videos for Playboy were filmmakers from the adult industry. So after about ten or fifteen of these shoots we started to get comfortable being on camera. And since we were married they just told us to go ahead and have sex. So we did and it made the films look really good and real and Hef didn’t seem to have problem with it probably because they were editing out the penetration. But I knew that once I crossed over to the point were I was working for other companies doing penetration that there would be trouble. Hef wrote me a letter telling me that I let the Playmates down by what I did. And I didn’t feel that way because I probably wouldn’t even have done all of this if it weren’t for Playboy. I just viewed it as a step forward in my career. There wasn’t much left for me to do for Playboy. I had done everything I possibly could for them. And at that point it was either go home and raise kids or continue on with my career. So I chose to go X-rated.
Layers: So you and Murrill made the step into hardcore together?
Teri: We did the first movie together. They had it set up where him and I did a scene and then he had a scene with two other chicks. It was his first time and it was really hard and the girls were real mean to him and he got turned off and decided not to do it anymore. We finished the movie but it was really hard for him. I had no problem though and it was a lot of money.
(Teri Weigels first XXX film was for Wicked Pictures. It debuted in 1991 and was titled Inferno. Inferno stared Ashley Nicole, Alicyn Sterling, April Rayne, Joey Silvera, Mark Wallace, Joey Murphy, and Teri’s husband Murrill Maglio.)
Layers: And he didn’t have a problem with you being with other guys?
Teri: No. It was something that we knew was gonna happen if I wanted to pursue this career. And that’s where the honesty comes from.
Layers: Was it difficult to make that transition?
Teri: Yea it was. I had a lot of factors to consider. Family and stuff like that. And Playboy just kind of shut the door and I was already kind of doing it so it seemed O.K. to me because they weren’t having a problem with it when I was making the money for them. The problem was that Hef no longer had any power over me.
Layers: What’s your relationship with Playboy today?
Teri: I tried to write him when they came out with the pictorial with the pornstars because they left me out. And I was very upset. And he wrote back and told me that I was a Playmate who broke the rules.
Layers: Is there anything you won’t do on film?
Teri: Anal. I will not do anal.
Layers: Has the adult industry changed at all since your first film in 1991?
Teri: Absolutely. There’s some good things and there’s some bad things. There’s better looking guys now. But they’re better looking with bigger attitudes and less performance qualities. Meaning that they’ve got big dicks but they can’t keep them hard. And with everybody eating Viagra like candy, they sometimes get aggressive. Back in the old days they fucked and it was their adrenaline. The companies have changed a lot too. There are a lot more companies out there and there are a lot more girls doing it. Stuff has gotten a lot harder- core too. A lot of the guys are into knockin’ the girls around. I’m not into that shit at all.
Layers: Who are some of the more well known stars you’ve worked with in the past?
Teri: I’ve worked with Rocco Sigfried, Peter North, Randy West…
Layers: …Marc Wallice?
Teri: Yea, I fucked Marc Wallice years ago and I know were you’re going with this and during the time period that he contracted HIV my career was on hold do to a major car accident. I was out for about three years. But yea, I was with him before the whole AIDS scare.
(Marc Wallice was considered to be one of the biggest male stars in the industry until he tested positive for HIV in 1998. If you’ve seen a porno, then you’ve seen Marc Wallice. This news was considered to be the biggest shock to the industry since the death of John Holmes in 1988 from an AIDS related illness.)
Layers: What was the feeling in the industry when they found out he had it?
Teri: It was pretty fuckin’ scary. The main concern was to how long he had it and who he had been with while he had it. And back then, they didn’t really know as much about AIDS as they do now. They didn’t know how long it lay dormant. It was scary.
Layers: You appeared for a short while at the Bunny Ranch in Nevada, the only legal brothel in the United States. How did that gig come about and what was that experience like for you?
Teri: It was just an experience. I met up with Dennis, the owner, and it was kind of like doin’ movies. They had really respectable high-end clients and it was a lot of money.
Layers: You’ve done some mainstream work too. What’s the different in the atmosphere on a big Hollywood set compared to the atmosphere on a porn shoot?
Teri: The attitudes are a lot more neutral on a Hollywood set. There’s more attitude on a porn set because sometimes you have a lot of hot girls together who each think they are better than the other. It can get catty.
Layers: Can you offer any advice to young girls out there who are considering a career in the adult industry?
Teri: They need to think about it really long and hard because it’s a journey that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. And if they are strong enough to handle it then they should have no problems. If they’re not strong individuals, then they might want to rethink it. It’s not as glamorous as it seems. It’s a hard life and people always recognize you for what you do.
Layers: What’s been the biggest obstacle that you’ve had to overcome to get where you are today?
Teri: I don’t really know. Everything that has come my way in life I’ve been able to work through in a logical manner. If I had to say one thing, it would probably be my relationship with Playboy.
Layers: What do you have to say to people who condemn pornography as socially irresponsible?
Teri: I just think that everybody should think for themselves and make their own decisions in life and not have their decisions made up for them by what other people delegate as to what’s good or what’s bad. I think that an open mind is very important for young people today so that we can form a stronger society than what we already have. Porn is not the problem.
Layers: What’s next for the great Teri Weigel?
Teri: I just finished two films for Wicked Pictures. Those will be the last ones. But they don’t know that yet. I’ve got five more weeks in the adult industry and them I’m gonna turn a new leaf and I’m gonna have my own show at the Sahara Hotel in Vegas singing. We don’t have a name for the group yet but there will be a live band behind me and four backup singers. It will be a mixed show with a comedian and a magician and we got the big room so it sits 850 people. Rehearsals are the whole month of January and we’ll be premiering the week after the Super Bowl.

Teresa “Teri” Susan Weigel (born February 24, 1962) is a American pornographic actress, Playboy Playmate, and occasional prostitute.
Weigel was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and grew up in Deerfield Beach, Florida, where she attended Deerfield Beach High School, and began her career as a lingerie catalog model for companies such as Saks Fifth Avenue. She first appeared on the cover of the November, 1985 issue of Playboy, and then was the Playboy Playmate for April, 1986. (See List of people in Playboy 1980-1989.) Weigel also appeared in a number of Playboy videos before her relationship with Playboy ended acrimoniously in 1990, and she has claimed that Playboy has tried to interfere in her post-Playmate career.
In addition to modeling, Weigel appeared in a minor role on NBC’s Miami Vice during the 1985-1986 season.
She subsequently had several minor roles in mainstream film, including Predator 2 and Marked for Death, and made multiple appearances as “Jade” on Married… with Children, before becoming the second Playmate ever to act in hardcore pornography, after appearing in Playboy, in 1991. (The first was Susan Lynn Kiger.) She was also the second Playmate to go on to appear in Penthouse magazine, after Ursula Buchfellner,[3] November 1985, although not as a Pet of the Month (that “first” belongs to Linn Thomas). Weigel continues to act in porn videos, pose nude in magazine pictorials, and also performs nationally as a nude dancer. She has also worked as a featured performer in a legal Nevada brothel, the Moonlite Bunny Ranch. Her husband since 1986, Murrill Maglio, is also her manager.
Shortly after beginning to act in porn films, Weigel had her breasts augmented. She has also changed her hair color from her original dark brown to blonde. Weigel has been in two serious car crashes (in 1990 and again in 1994), and it is unknown if she had any plastic surgery as a result.
In 2005, Weigel was one of many porn actors inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame at the AVN Awards, the major industry awards show held annually in Las Vegas.
As of April 2008, Weigel was working as a Bikini Girl on fishing charter boats out of Fort Pierce, Florida.
